Differences Between Damon Braces and Invisalign, With Dr. Ousama El-Hillal, E & S Orthodontics, Phoenix, Tolleson, Chandler, Peoria, Arizona
When deciding on treatment options to straighten teeth, there are a couple of options available to patients, including the Damon System and Invisalign.
The Damon System is based on the concept that it's more than just straight teeth. It's the idea that when you're able to expand and fully develop a person's upper and lower jaw, you end up with more lip support and structural support, which translates into a wider smile and more facial balance, says Dr. Ousama El-Hillal, of E & S Orthodontics in Phoenix, Arizona. He says that a nice expansion can be achieved with the Damon System that allows for a more youthful look to occur.
Invisalign is a great product for people who don't want to use braces, as it's the "clear alternative to braces," Dr. El-Hillal says. The beauty of Invisalign, he says, is that it's an option for patients who would have never considered doing braces and allows them the opportunity to straighten their teeth and achieve a great smile in a way that for them, may be more socially-acceptable. In addition to being a clear alternative, another great benefit of Invisalign is that you're able to take it in and out, which faciliates your ability to clean your teeth more effectively, adds Dr. El-Hillal.
Invisalign has really transformed over the past 10 years in giving teenagers an alternative to braces. By high school, some teenagers don't want braces, so this allows them to straighten their teeth without the concept of braces, which Dr. El-Hillal considers to be powerful in their product.
There are some concerns from parents with Invisalign, however, including compliance and losing it. There are 2 blue dots on the aligners, which keep the dentist informed about usage and compliance and Dr. El-Hillal says that the manufacturer can replace the aligners at no charge up to 2 times.
