As more people and physicians are starting to become more aware of sleep apnea, there are some signs that show up early on that might indicate someone has sleep apnea, says Dr. Stephen Poss, a dentist in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Loud, persistent snoring, being exhausted and a sleep partner who hears gasping and choking at night are all early warning signs of sleep apnea.
Dr. Poss says that just because you snore, doesn't mean you have sleep apnea but that 35% of snorers have some form of sleep apnea. It's also a strong indication that you should meet with your physician to get it evaluated further by way of a sleep study.
