Physician Referral Process, With Dr. Stephen Poss, Practical Sleep Solutions, Brentwood, Franklin, Nashville, Tennessee

For any physician referring a sleep breathing disorder patient to Dr. Stephen Poss, a dentist in Brentwood, Tennessee with Practical Sleep Solutions and Poss Dental Designs, he always conveys to the patient that a CPAP is the gold standard for treating sleep apnea.  Dr. Poss also knows that some people aren't great candidates for the CPAP, so he follows the protocol set forth by the ACSDD, the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines.

After the requested sleep study by the physician is completed, along with a written prescription brought in by the patient, Dr. Poss will do a complete TMJ exam, an oral exam and a periodontal exam to make sure the teeth and structures are healthy enough for an oral appliance.  Dr. Poss only uses FDA-approved oral appliances.

After several calibrations, as soon as the symptoms dissipate and the breathing and snoring is better, Dr. Poss will send a letter to the referring physician to request a follow up sleep study.  Staying in the loop with the referring physician is most important, according to Dr. Poss.

After the oral appliance is placed and adjusted and verified by the physician that it's been effective, Dr. Poss will see that patient twice during that first year and then once each year thereafter.  Dr. Poss also works with all major insurance companies, including Medicare, to make sure a good amount is covered after the patient's deductible has been met.
