ACSDD Executive Director Michael Krahe and First Data Relationship

The Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines (ACSDD) has always been focused on bringing value to its members and the ACSDD's relationship with First Data is part of their commitment to its members.

First Data, the largest credit card company in the U.S. and globally, can decrease your overhead and increase your cash flow.  Dr. Michael Krahe, Executive Director of the ACSDD, says that topics like credit card processing and cash flow management can be confusing and overwhelming but still remains imperative because all of the ACSDD members are in a position to process credit cards on a daily basis.

Since July, 2012, by using First Data, Dr. Krahe says the credit card fees for the ACSDD have decreased by 50%.  The ACSDD has received end of month reports, detailing where, when and how each credit card transaction has taken place and funds are deposited into the bank account in two business days.

Dr. Krahe says to look for emails sending notices about First Data Webinars.  He also says that the ACSDD receives no remuneration by bringing this message to its members.  “The ACSDD will always bring you the best value proposition, technology, business ideas and concepts to help improve your practice in your effectiveness and efficiency in delivering top quality care,” says Dr. Krahe.

ACSDD Fall 2012 Conference: Multiple Care Pathways for the OSA Patient

The Academy of Sleep Disorders Disciplines (ACSDD) had their Multiple Care Pathways Conference in October at the Ritz Carlton in Scottsdale, Arizona.  This great event was kicked off by an impassioned speech by Dr. Paul Gosar, dentist and congressman from Arizona.

Dr. Gosar's speech was a common sense approach to reigning in government spending and encouraging insurance carriers to reward healthcare and healthy lifestyles vs. the treatment of symptoms and disease.  Dr. Gosar will be helping with the ACSDD consortium initiative to bring change on Capitol Hill for the issues facing dentists.  Dr. Michael Krahe, Executive Director of the ACSDD, will be meeting with Dr. Gosar later this month to discuss specific steps that will be taken to that end.

Dr. Michael Lacey, neurologist and Medical Director of the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia delivered a speech about neurology and how it relates to dental sleep medicine.  Dr. Krahe says that the ACSDD has formed an affiliation with the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine, which is one of the premiere learning institutions for physicians who wish to learn about sleep medicine.  The ACSDD will also be partnering with the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine on a joint conference in May, 2014, to "truly bring the physician and dentist together," says Krahe.

Visitors from Australia, Canada and South Africa were in attendance at the Multiple Care Pathways Conference and it was announced that the ACSDD will have its first President in a foreign country.  Dr. Dittmar Eichhoff from South Africa will be launching the ACSDD in South Africa.

Several other prominent speakers gave stellar performances on dental sleep medicine and sleep disorder breathing.  Michael Krahe says to watch your email about the upcoming exciting conference.

ACSDD Consortium Featuring Executive Director Michael Krahe

Sleep Better TV recently spoke with Michael Krahe, PhD, Executive Director and Founder of the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines about the ACSDD Consortium and how its key initiatives are helping those dentists treating obstructive sleep apnea and how he is creating awareness in the political arena.

The initiative of the consortium is to advocate for dentists who are doing dental sleep medicine. In doing so, the consortium will be providing concrete and specific actions to bring positive change to the elements that are affecting dentists’ abilities to provide effective treatment to their patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

The ACSDD is taking specific action in addressing a number of issues through specific objectives. Through the consortium’s key initiatives, there are 3 messages that will be disseminated through primary individuals and their respective work groups. The first, educating the public on obstructive sleep apnea and its treatment options, will be led by Dr. Mark Passion. Educating physicians that oral appliances are an effective treatment for mild to moderate OSA is the second initiative, led by Mr. Omar Perez. Lastly, Dr. Ellen Crean will be leading the education to insurance carriers and the federal payment system that treatment for OSA is a more cost effective solution than paying for the co-morbid diseases that arise if sleep apnea is left untreated.

Michael Krahe has met with Congressman Ben Quayle of Arizona, about the role dentists can play in his healthcare reform initiatives, such as bringing the cost of healthcare down with an emphasis on healthcare savings accounts and a reduction of healthcare premiums.

The next ACSDD conference will be held at the Ritz Carlton in Phoenix, Arizona on October 19 and 20 and will be focusing on the emerging interest in healthcare as it applies to the sleep disordered-breathing patient.

2012 ACSDD Sleep Apnea Conference Featuring Executive Director Michael Krahe

ACSDD Executive Director Michael Krahe speaks about the 2012 ACSDD conference at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. This was their fourth conference, with over 100 attendees and 14 exhibitors. It was a huge success, as there was a great deal of learning and a great sense of community. There were phenomenal speakers presenting the pros and cons of the use of oral appliances in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

Diane Enos, President of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, opened up the conference and graciously welcomed all of the attendees to the Talking Stick Resort, which is part of this Indian Community. Michael Krahe will be meeting with Diane Enos this June to further discuss how ACSDD can partner with the Native American community in regards to dental sleep medicine.

ACSDD representatives from other countries were there, including Dr. David Rawson of Ontario, Canada, as well as liaisons from as far away as Russia and South Africa.

Sleep Better TV was introduced as a new technology that ACSDD is using, in conjunction with Sequence Media Group of Scottsdale, Arizona, as a new education and marketing tool that is available to ACSSD affiliates. Additionally, Dental Expert TV was introduced to provide an even broader list of expert dentists and will be available for dentists wanting to market themselves as experts in their field.

The launching of the consortium initiative was announced and how it will be used as an advocate for dentists needing help providing effective sleep apnea treatment. Dental Town, a social network media group, has agreed to help communicate these initiatives to their network of over 180,000 dentists worldwide and also put an article in their Dental Town magazine.

Sleep Better TV – ACSDD – Value Proposition Part 1

Michael Krahe, ACSDD Director, discusses the Value Proposition of the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines and its interdisciplinary approach.

Michael Krahe, PhD, Executive Director and Founder of the ACSDD (Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines) speaks about how the ACSDD stands out from other sleep disorder academies. The ACSDD is an inter-disciplinary academy that is separated from others, involving both the dentist and physician and allows all to become members. The goal is for each separate group to come together collectively and learn as one. The ACSDD believes that learning should involve new, cutting edge, evidence-based knowledge which can then be applied to a clinical expertise.

The ACSDD is a member-focused academy, whose sole purpose is to provide outstanding customer and member service. When one becomes a member of the ACSDD, there are numerous benefits, including discounts to courses and events, as they believe it is important to give back to its members.
The ACSDD offers an accelerated and rigorous diplomate process through an on-demand, online training program to meet the member’s scheduling needs. A member can go from novice, to fellow and ultimately diplomate and can drop in wherever one’s knowledge set fits.

The academy is involved in a consortium, in an effort to bring change to the insurance industry. The ACSDD wants insurance companies to recognize the value of dentists working on sleep medicine, as co-morbid factors would be removed from the cost equation.
